About Beth Jusino

Beth-jusino
Beth Jusino is a freelance editor, marketer, teacher, and writer who loves words and the people who write them. Whether she is working with self-help nonfiction or mystery novels, women’s fiction or memoir, Beth helps an author navigate the place between "first draft" and "published book" by focusing on the needs of publishers and book readers. She loves taking the “ten thousand foot view” and helps writers evaluate and develop book proposals and marketing plans, as well as offering manuscript critiques and evaluations.

Beth is a member of the Northwest Independent Editors Guild and the part-time Director of Book and Author Marketing for The Editorial Department. She teaches a "Guide to Getting Published" seminar each quarter at the University of Washington's Experimental College. Prior to this, she spent five years as a literary agent with Alive Communications, where she represented a diverse list of best-selling and up-and-coming authors. The American Christian Fiction Writers nominated Beth as an “Agent of the Year” finalist in 2008, and for three years she was a judge for the Genesis contest for unpublished novelists. She enjoys teaching the crafts of writing and marketing, and has spoken at more than 20 writers’ conferences and publishing gatherings across the country, including the South Carolina Writers Workshop, the American Christian Fiction Writers, and in 2012, the Tuscon Book Festival.

As a marketer, Beth worked with a number of companies, including the American Red Cross, to develop social media and clear communication channels. As a writer and editor, Beth contributed to dozens of books herself, from story compilations to business titles, and has been widely published in national magazines. Before becoming an agent, she was the Managing Editor for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) International, where she helped to launch and edited MOMSense Magazine.

Beth grew up near the New Jersey shore and earned her BA in political science from Wheaton College, Illinois. She and her husband (Eric) and cat (Comma) now live in Seattle. When her nose is not buried in a book, Beth rows with a local crew team, dabbles in yoga, and is an amateur photographer. Her “for fun” reading list is eclectic, with favorite authors ranging from Nick Hornby to Annie Dillard, Seth Godin to Salman Rushdie.
